A collaboration between AML Scaffolding and UKSSH delivered four impressive aerial walkways to provide access for the 35,000 concertgoers attending each of the events at Blackweir – a new outdoor venue in the centre of Cardiff.
Blackweir, an iconic green space alongside the River Taff, was transformed into Cardiff’s largest greenfield venue with the construction of four public access ramps, each running from the main road through wooded areas and spanning the dock feeder canal that runs parallel with both the road and the concert arena, and then into the arena itself.
The largest ramp was 60m long x 7.5m wide, while the three other ramps were each 2.5m wide and between 46m long and 58m long.
Michael Leaman, Director of AML Scaffolding, commented: “This was a prestigious project in more ways than one: Headline artists including Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette and Stevie Wonder guaranteed that the concerts would sell out, so providing safe access across difficult terrain would be critical to the success of the event.
“Following on from a successful project at The Principality Stadium, we knew that a collaborative approach, combining AML’s skill sets and reputation for reliability and safety with UKSSH’s product knowledge and huge stock levels would deliver the perfect solution.
“Haki is one of the very few scaffold systems that enable you to build ramps which are fully compliant with public access legislation and – as proved at Blackweir - can be designed to rise to any challenge and adapted to accommodate space, length and shape limitations”.
